PdaNet for Treo 650, PdaNet for Windows Mobile

Feb-2006 by Kenneth C originated from PocketGear
Does a wonderful job. Allows one to link to the internet any place where the reception to the phone/PDA exists. Makes me love my XV6700 all the more. Thanks for a great product.

There are manual ways to do the same thing, but this is so easy. Download and hit connect, that's it. I will pay this for the ease of use. Super cool

Talk about bang for your buck. Just when I though I had pushed my Treo to its limit, then this. WOW!

I have been using PDA Net with my Treo 650 Cingular service. It is simple to use and works great.

I rate this product a 5. I'm so glad I can disconnect my ISP now because this is faster than my ISP connection. A wonderful product. Definitely will buy the full version.

I get constantly disconnected in a bad luck day (in my hotel room, no movements...) and I don't know why, I wouldn't have similar problems with Treo 650 alone, only when I use it with Pdanet... never understand why. But somehow it's still such an amazing softwares to let my Treo become a modem, I use it everyday, I don't have broadband most of the time so this software is extremely useful for me, essential, it saves my money so I don't have to buy an additional PCMCIA GPRS modem. Five stars!

It just works. So simple to use it's amazing. I bought it even after I got DUN working on my cingular Treo 650. Dun was fine but it was a hassle to constantly pair it with my laptop. Initially I thought it was a bluetooth problem so I bought PDANet so I could use it with the USB cable. On a whim, I decided to try to connect with Bluetooth and was amazed to find that because of the way that it works - it paired correctly with my laptop each time so now to connect I press a single button and put the phone in my pocket. The only feature I would love to see is an automatic reconnect when the connection is lost. I use my PDA on the train and because we're moving so fast my connection waivers in and out. Would be nice if it just reconnected automatically. For me - with the Edge network I get about 100kps when I check with toast.net.Get it and avoid the hassle. Developer answers emails quickly and professionally.

I initially tried this app via bluetooth and couldn't get it to work. I also bluetooth sync so there may have been a conflict there that I need to look deeper into resolving. But if you bluetooth sync too and want to use this via bluetooth, it's a bit challenging. Im' assuming it can be made to work with some effort. So i pulled out my travel USB connector and went that route. Came up instantly, no problems at all. Surfing over Cingular is a tad slow but it does work in a pinch when there's no WiFi around.

WOW! Fabulous function "right out of the box"! This software is just what I was looking for. Using it couldn't have been easier and speed was effective (used with USB cable). Thank you for developing this seemless-to-use product. I also installed the pdaReach; it too was surprisingly easy to use the first time and briskly responsive. Both products instantly have made my upcoming out-of-state trip a lot easier from the perspective of Intenet access via laptop and typing certain types ofcontent-heavy information into my Treo 650. THANK YOU!

Additional rambling to my prior review: After playing a little more with PDANet, I realize that you can change the speed of the connection. So I have it set at the max. of 384 Kbps. The computer advises that I am currently sending 174,101 bytes per second and receiving at 340,994 bytes per second. And again my Treo 650 is showing one "bar" of Sprint signal. Hope the technical info. helps!

One StarOne StarOne StarOne StarNo Star excellent excellent with some minor install and boot-up run issues originated from Handango

A reviewer from Florida, 2006-01-02 08:32:39

"Incredible. This program works great. I did have some installation issues as I had to (per FAQ) create a dummy Network Connection to get it to work (see FAQ instructions), and now after boot up, to get it to work, I have to go to Network Connections and "dial" the dummy connection (and then close out) to get PDANET to make the connection. After that - works great. I just e-mailed support and maybe they will have an easy solution, but I don't care, its worth it as is. I have and will be using it at hotels which do not have free internet or wifi access."

"This is an excellent product. I spent hours trying to figure out how to get my Treo to act as a modem for my laptop. Now my laptop connects via my synch cable and through my already-paid-for web access on my Treo. I don''t have to pay for another internet connection and I don''t have to pay $80 a month for a laptop card. This program is fantastic! I wish I had found it earlier..."

PdaNet for Treo 600

The software works as advertised. I think people need to actually test their bandwidth, rather than going by what Windows tells them. Although Windows XP Pro reported my connection at 145kbps, testing showed that my speed was actually about 39kbps.

WOW!!!! WHAT AN INDREDIBLE PIECE OF SOFTWARE!! QUITE POSSIBLY THE GREATEST ELECTRONIC INVENTION SINCE THE LIGHT BULB! I USED THE TRIAL DEMO VER. & QUITE SIMPLY WILL BE PURCHASING THE FULL PRODUCT BEFORE THE TRIAL VER. EXPIRES!!. THIS IS A "MUST HAVE " FOR ANY ONE THAT HAS A LAPTOP (& TREO 270/300 OR 600 OF COURSE) & NEEDS MOBILE WEB/DATA ACCESS; BUT DOES NOT WANT TO BE DUPED INTO PURCHASING HIGH PRICED AIRCARDS & OR PAY EXTRA UNECESSARY MONTHLY AIRCARD DATA CHARGES. I'M ACHIEVING CONSISTANT 145k VIA MY TREO 600 VIA SPRINT . I HAD BEEN SEARCHING THE WEB THE PAST FEW YEARS IN SEARCH OF AN EASY TO USE & TROUBLE FREE PRODUCT SUCH AS THIS. ESPECIALLY AFTER HAVING OWNED VARIOUS OTHER MODELS (TREO 300; SAMSUNG I330) OF PDA SMARTPHONE DEVICES. I AM GLAD THAT I FINALLY REGISTERED WITH THE "PALMGEAR"/ PALMONE WEB SITE AS THEY PROVIDED THE LINK TO THE GREAT FOLKS @ PdaNet./ JUNE FABRICS PDA TECH GROUP GREAT PRODUCT; GREAT JOB; KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

works like a charm! i'm connecting via sprint at 145 kbps. thank you! two enhancement requests: 1. enable pdanet to run in background (eg, pocketunes), so that you can do other things on the pda like hotsync. 2. allow screen on pda to be shut off while running (eg, pocketunes).

Just tested the demo - this program RAWKS! Got a connect speed of nearly 200kbps with a weak wireless signal (2 out of five bars) on a Sprint PCS Treo 600. Combined with Sprint's flat-rate PCS Vision, you can't beat this with a stick! CHEAP FAST WIRELESS WITHOUT A WI-FI HOTSPOT! I'm buying the registered version, NOW! YOU SHOULD TOO!!!

Works beautifully with SprintPCS. Installs easily. Seamless, connects with network within 10-15 sec. Much easier than I imagine. Avg speed 145 kbps, no screamer but no problem with email and web pages. Simply touch screen on Treo to get going. Well designed, well priced, good value.

excellent software ! I just bought my treo 600 for sprint, and use this with the sync cable with my laptop. I able to browse, works, and vpn to my office at a very good speed. I used to have ricochet for wireless service (before they went bankrupt 2 years ago), and I can say this is much more stable then them, there is no signal drop, just constant upload and download using this piece of software to my treo 600. I recommend this must have software for sprint + treo 600. another comment from greatful user...

22-Mar-04 by Michael S originated from Palmgear
All I can say is WOW! I use both an AirCard and PdaNet and get better throughput from PdaNet and didn't have to pay for the aircard. sprint service is outstanding across the nation. There has not been anywhere that I have not been able to connect, generally with sustained 90kbps plus. I can't say enough about this product (and I am not related to or in any way connected with the author).

06-Feb-04 by Michael G originated from Palmgear
Ditto all the above (I'm on Sprint PCS too)! Plus, works well with Microsoft and Cisco VPN solutions.

31-Jan-04 by Eric J originated from Palmgear
This is awesome! I just hope my Sprint bill doesn't show up with some unexpected charges! The connection to Sprint in the Phoenix metro area is great! Only thing needed is an auto off for the screen once you are connected

27-Jan-04 by Phil B originated from Palmgear
Wow! I am connecting at roughly 3x the speed of my 56k modem. Setup was effortless, and it configured itself I guess (I sure didn't configure it). I use SprintPCS Treo600 BTW.

A reviewer from Philadelphia, PA, December 8, 2004

"Before my Treo, I used to use my cell phone to get my email over the Verizon network. I frequently need to get "real" file attachments and get them into software on the laptop - not just the toy apps like Docs-to-Go. I used to pay 79.99 a month for the unlimited Mobile Office data plan. With PDANet and unlimited PDA data for $44.99, I can get the same functionality. The only thing I no longer have is the ability to use the Quick2Net (14.4kbps) system in non-Verizon areas, such as a large portion of central VA."

One StarOne StarOne StarOne StarOne Star Excellent (and sometimes only) way to access e-mail  originated from Handango

***@hotmail.com from Bainbridge Island, WA USA, July 8, 2004

"I bought a Treo 600 just prior to a recent trip to Europe and I downloaded the trial version of PdaNet. I was hoping to use the Treo in place of a PCcard wireless modem. In airports and in many hotels in Europe without any net access, I was able to access email and work online using the Treo via GPRS. The software was very easy to install and worked almost flawlessly all the time. If I was interupted by a phone call during an online session, the phone/software would "freeze" or the port on my laptop wouldn't operate properly, and both the phone and laptop needed to be rebooted. Don't wait for the phone to clear itself; just reboot using the tool built into the stylus. That was my only problem with the software/hardware combination. I would be happy to answer any questions, because I now have a pretty good working knowledge of the system and using it in Western Europe and US airports."

PdaNet for Treo 300/270/180

If you have a Treo, you need this program. Period. It is very simple to install and to use and meanwhile customizable if you need. Performance is second to none; I get 150k downloading speed constantly, that's as fast as you can get with SprintPCS network.

02-Jun-03 by scott r originated from Palmgear
I bought this for the Sprint network and found out that PCS proxies port 80 and their proxy server doesn't work at times. My solution was to connect to another proxy server for port 80 and it has been extremely stable ever since.

It works great!! I installed it and was on-line within 2 minutes of obtaining the program. I am able to get Lotus Notes with my laptop from anywhere there is a digital line. Now that's fantastic.

Essential for business travelers. Higher speeds than dial up and complete mobility (why wait until you get to the hotel, or back to the office?). When traveling, I no longer connect to the hotel phone. I've used this program for over a month and the connections have been flawless. Speeds have ranged from acceptable (20k to 40k) to phenomenal (over 100k in some areas - depends on the cell cignal). I have had no problems, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to travel with a laptop and not be tethered to a tedious and slow phone line. Well worth the money.

19-Apr-03 by Jaime A originated from Palmgear
I stopped carrying around my laptop because my treo 300 could do more for me while i was out. This program makes carrying a laptop worth the trouble. I have conducted bandwidth tests on several different sites and consistently achieve speeds around 100kbps! It attracts a lot of attention when you surf on the train.

I have a treo 300 with sprint service. First of all, I would like to say that treo and sprint rock!!! (e-mail, web browse, pda with unlimited internet service) Secondly, I didn't even imagine that I can use treo 300 as wireless modem for my laptop. It goes up to twice as fast as 56k. this is must have if you have treo 300.
